California

The ' dream state ' is on the North American Coast, California and New York. Many young people flock here to start their careers in the entertainment business in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Los Angeles is home to the famed Venice Beach, a stretch of golden sand and blue waters, a popular holiday destination for many.

San Francisco is also located in California and is often regarded as the gay capital of the USA.

Florida

Nicknamed the "Sunshine State", Florida has several important cities. It's the USA's southeastern state, with the Atlantic on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other.

Thanks to the warm weather, these destinations are perfect all year round. If you're after a cultural trip, head to Tampa, which is full of museums and top-class restaurants and is the business capital of Florida.

Texas

The second largest state after Alaska, Texas, is in the south of the USA. There are many activities to do here, a mix of desert and forest.

Stroll along the Rio Grande, a river that forms its border with Mexico. Visit Dallas, the cultural centre of Texas.

It has plenty of museums and galleries for you to spend your time, as well as the Dallas World Aquarium.

Houston is home to NASA, the International Space Station, and some significant museums and opera houses.

Take a trip to Galveston, an island city off the Gulf coast. Giant glass pyramids house sharks, monkeys and other animals, and a pleasure pier on the south shore. This is a great beach destination with plenty of fishing ports and kayaking spots.

New York

New York has five distinct boroughs along the Hudson River and the Atlantic Ocean.

With Manhattan at its core, it is one of the USA's most significant financial and business centres.

Visit the famed Statue of Liberty by catching a boat to the small Liberty Island and go up to the top of her crown, offering views for miles. Central Park is also in New York, one of the world's most known parks.

It boasts a zoo and a reservoir on its grounds. Take a trip to Times Square and Broadway; much like Los Angeles, many young people travel here to try to get on a Broadway show, as New York is known for its theatre district.

Nevada

Bordered by California, Nevada is home to the city of Las Vegas! Built from nothing around vast expanses of desert, Las Vegas is a party city filled with flashing lights, clubs and 24-hour casinos; it is not to be missed.

Get tickets to an extravagant burlesque show and dance the night away. Be sure to visit Reno, a few miles from the gorgeous Lake Tahoe.

A concrete jungle is also filled with casinos; time moves slower here than in Vegas, which is more appropriate for the average person!

Reno is also situated at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, a sight to behold. Nevada is also home to the daunting-sounding Death Valley National Park, expanded over 3.4 million acres; it is perfect for hiking, camping and biking. Book an excursion to the Grand Canyon, a picturesque desert wonderland.

The USA is a safe country. Crime can occur, so you must always keep your belongings in sight.

The safety requirements differ from state to state. In a form where the weather is scorching, pack plenty of sunscreen and water before heading outside; similarly, if the temperature in the state you are in is cold, wrap up warm.

Be wary of the customs in each state; in the South, there are many more people with guns, and historically significantly less tolerable with minorities, whereas areas like California and New York are more accepting.
