Cycling Travel Insurance FAQs

What happens if when Cycling abroad and I fall off my bike and get injured, how does the Travel Insurance cover me?

We will provide Medical Expenses cover for any injuries whilst Cycling abroad as well as Repatriation back to your home.

If I am Cycling and my baggage and valuables are stolen from my bike panniers, am I covered under Personal Property?

Your Personal Property will be covered for theft, loss or damage as long as the bike panniers are closed and secure with a lock. Your bike and panniers must be within eye contact at all times and wherever you leave your bike, make sure it is securely locked.

What protective gear do I need to be wearing so that the Cycling Travel Insurance remains valid?

You should always wear the appropriate clothing, for example, if you are Cycling at altitude you should be wearing and have with you warm clothes at your disposal. Footwear is important and you should always wear appropriate footwear; such as cycle shoes or sturdy shoes or boots. You should always wear a cycle helmet as this is the best way of avoiding a head injury.

If I am travelling for a long period, or just exploring the world for a year, can I get a Travel Insurance policy for the duration of the trip?

Our Backpacker policy does cover Cycling and Cycle Touring as an activity whilst you are travelling. This policy can last up to 12 months and you can extend up to this duration at any time.

If I am Cycling at altitude, can I get cover?

Yes, we provide cover if you are Cycling at altitude, for example, cycling in the mountains or other areas which are above sea levels such as Nepal or India. You can get a quote through our Adventures policy and you will need to select: Cycling / Cycle Touring (leisure).

Travelling with a Bicycle

If you wish to fly to your holiday destination on a bicycle you must consult with the Airline before you travel. You should check the Airline's policy on excess and overweight baggage.

We do not provide cover for your bike and alternative insurance would need to be purchased to cover this.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

If you have pre-existing medical conditions and you plan to participate in Cycling whilst travelling abroad, we can provide you with a policy.

This activity is covered automatically under Hazardous Activity Pack A.
