Popular Destinations in Switzerland

Zurich

Located at the waterfront of both the river and lake, Zurich provides a beautiful setting for a romantic getaway.

Switzerland's wealthiest and largest city is also famous with young people, a hip metropolis that is fashion-forward and full of contemporary art and design.

Zurich's Old Town is a collection of winding paths and gorgeous architecture, with high and astounding church steeples that can be seen for miles.

Bern

This UNESCO World Heritage city, Bern, is Switzerland's surprisingly ancient capital.

Blanketed in modern restaurants and bars, as well as 16th-century fountains and dated architecture, Bern is a mixture of traditionalism and current concepts.

Located within rolling hills and by the Aare River, it is a beautiful location to spend your time.

Be sure to visit a museum and the Zytglogge, Bern's most famed Old Town spot, an incredible ornate clock tower.

Geneva

The communication capital of Switzerland, Geneva, is often perceived as the actual capital. Given its name by the rare bird that resides there, Geneva has an impressive backdrop of the Swiss Alps, and along the beautiful Alpine Lake, this city is a must-visit on your trip to Switzerland.

The headquarters of the World Trade Organization, World Health Organization, International Committee of the Red Cross, and the second largest branches of the United Nations and World Bank are located here, giving the city modern and cutting-edge air and a feeling of safety.

A melting pot of cultures, a walk down any street will give you insight into a conversation in almost every language, and the Swiss locals will more often than not speak fluent English.

Lugano

Situated on the edge of lush mountains, Lugano is a reasonably lively city, as it is an essential city for banking; many residents living here live luxurious lives. Therefore, the city attractions have to reflect this desire.

Lugano retains its old town feel, with cobbled streets and quaint cafes to enjoy a coffee in.

Scale the twin peaks of Monte Brè and Monte San Salvatore and be greeted with incredible views of the snowcapped Swiss Alps, and take a picnic up in the warmer months.

Travel Risks in Switzerland

Switzerland is one of the safest countries in the world, with crime rates very low. Locals here are amiable and will likely want to do anything to help. However, be wary of people (especially teenagers) pestering you to help carry your bags, as this may be a distraction technique.

Pickpocketing is an issue in built-up and busy areas, so keep an eye on your belongings at all times.

Always be cautious when Skiing or Snowboarding, as there is always a risk of injury or avalanche.
