Thailand is a Southeast Asian country. It's known for tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples displaying figures of Buddha.

In Bangkok, the capital, an ultramodern cityscape rises next to quiet canalside communities and the iconic temples of Wat Arun, Wat Pho and the Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Kaew).

Popular Destinations in Thailand

Bangkok

Thailand's capital, Bangkok, is an incredible mix of cultures tied up into a progressive and accepting bundle. You will fall in love with Bangkok as soon as you step into its urban and metropolitan streets and fall for its food.

Thai food can be an intense mix of flavours and spices - not for the faint of heart, and a lot different from your Thai takeaway down the road.

Bangkok is so large, and you could spend weeks here and still discover something new daily!

Stray from the tourist areas, and you could find yourself conversing with a monk in a beautiful monastery, or stumble down the narrow streets and have a cocktail in a tucked away bar; the possibilities are endless!

Pattaya

A tropical paradise, Pattaya is located on the coast of Thailand and boasts clear waters, perfect for Swimming and Snorkelling.

Dubbed the 'Sex Capital' of Thailand, there are hundreds of bars and massage parlours to spend your time, as Thailand is a very sex-positive nation.

Perhaps not the perfect place to take the kids, but it still offers plenty of family-friendly resorts, and most of the 'locals' here are retired Brits.

Hua Hin

Thailand's original beach resort, Hua Hin, is a beautiful mix of a metropolis and seaside excellence. Full of waterparks and golf courses; if swimming in the sea is not your style, there is plenty more to do.

Be sure to visit a traditional market, sample the local cuisine, or hop on a Tuk Tuk and travel around the promenade.

A great budget destination, fresh seafood is abundant and superbly cheap; you'll never go hungry in Hua Hin.

Ko Samui

A famous island of Thailand, Ko Samui is somewhat overrun with tourists, yet still retains its traditional 'island feel'.

Perfect for a romantic getaway, get a room by the coast or a hotel with a private beach so you can be inches away from the gentle lapping of waves at any given time.

Sip a pina colada out of the shell of a coconut and be transported to an incredible paradise where you can feel your troubles melt away by the second.

Popular Sports and Activities

Sailing

Wakeboarding

Animal Sanctuary

Motorcycling

Martial Arts (Amateur Competition)

Travel Risks in Thailand

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all but essential travel to areas within the provinces on the Thailand-Malaysia border, including Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and the Southern Songkhla province.

Thailand is a reasonably safe country. Locals have been known to work as reps and 'touts' for commission, lure you into overpriced and inconvenient hotels, and offer free help with shopping and getting around. If someone tries to do this, politely decline, as you often end up with an outrageous bill.

Possession of drugs can result in at least one year or more of prison time. Drug smuggling – attempting to cross a border with medications in your control – carries considerably higher sanctions, including the death penalty.

The Thai people are amiable and will make you feel welcome! Be aware of your surroundings, as pickpockets can operate in built-up areas. Keep an eye on your belongings and keep your valuables on your person.
