Yes — you can put the rugby club name in the address field of the policy. This is common for club, school and team Rugby trips.

It will also show in the Activity list attached to your quote and policy packs.

Who and what we can cover

1. Do you cover children under 18 on their own for rugby travel insurance?

Yes — this is in fact our most popular age category; we provide policies for under-18s travelling abroad for rugby tours and tournaments. They must be travelling with a insured responsible adult(s) aged 21 or over (this adult(s) doesn't need to be insured by us).

And the ratio of adults to children cannot be less than 1 to 10.

2. Does your rugby cover schools, groups, clubs and university rugby trips?

Yes — we can cover all group types, whether schools, clubs or universities. No group is too large.

3. Do you cover supporters, parents or coaches who aren't playing?

Yes — anyone travelling who isn't taking part in the rugby still needs to be insured for the trip, but doesn't need the rugby activity added to their cover.

If you'll be actively coaching on the pitch rather than just watching, call us on 0800 043 0020 so we set the cover up correctly.

4. Can you cover me if I don't live in the UK?

Our policies are for residents of the UK and the Channel Islands. If you live elsewhere — for example the Republic of Ireland — you won't be eligible for a JS policy; contact us, and we'll see whether another provider can help.

5. Do you cover rugby insurance for professionals?

No — we don't provide cover for professional rugby on the JS policy. We can cover rugby scholarships in a learning environment where you're not being paid to compete, not receiving sponsorship or prize money, and not being paid to study.

Professional means anyone being paid to compete, or receiving any sponsorship or prize money.

Email support@jsinsurance.co.uk if you are getting paid to play and we may be able to cover you via a different provider.

6. Can you provide rugby insurance if I have a medical condition?

Yes. If your condition is on our accepted list of medical conditions which are also on (pages 8–9 of the JS policy wording), you're covered for the listed condition provided you meet the terms and conditions.

If your condition falls outside that list, we can arrange cover through our provider, Adventures

7. Can you provide rugby insurance if I have had an injury?

Yes — our provider Adventures offers rugby cover including previous injuries; you'll need to declare them during medical screening.

Email Or call us on 0800 043 0020 and we'll be happy to help.

What's covered while you play

1. What is the medical cover for rugby insurance?

Up to £5,000,000 for Emergency Medical & Repatriation back to the UK for rugby-related injuries or emergencies while taking part, and it also covers off-the-field injuries. The medical excess varies by level (£500 Silver / £100 Gold / Nil Platinum).

2. Does your rugby insurance cover injuries whilst playing?

Yes — injuries on and off the pitch are covered, with Emergency Medical & Repatriation up to £5,000,000 (excess varies by level).

3. Is there personal liability cover when playing rugby?

Partially. The policy includes personal liability (Gold and Platinum, up to £2,000,000) but excludes

-any liability to another player, participant, team member or opposing team member — so claims between players are never covered, on or off the pitch.

Liability to a spectator or member of the public generally remains covered, provided rugby is shown as your Insured Activity.

If you play for a club affiliated to the RFU, WRU or SRU, your union arranges liability insurance that typically covers player-to-player claims during club rugby; on overseas tours this is generally conditional on the tour having union approval, and cover terms vary — check the current position with your union or its broker before travelling. Non-affiliated and scratch teams have no union cover at all.

4. Is Personal Accident cover included when playing rugby? (And what actually is it?)

Don't worry — if you get injured playing rugby abroad, your medical bills and getting you home are covered, up to £5,000,000. That's the Emergency Medical section, and it's the cover most people mean when they ask about accidents.

Personal Accident is something different. It's a one-off cash payout — not treatment — made only after the very worst outcomes: death, loss of a limb or sight, or permanent disablement. On our policies, that payout doesn't apply to injuries from playing rugby. Your club's RFU, WRU or SRU insurance is designed to fill exactly that gap — the unions provide their own payouts for serious playing injuries.

In short: hurt playing rugby — we cover your treatment. Life-changing playing injury — the payout side comes from your union. Serious accident away from the rugby — Personal Accident on this policy still applies.

5. Does personal liability cover non-playing companions on a rugby tour?

Yes — if you're not taking part in the rugby, you're covered for personal liability. (Personal liability applies on Gold and Platinum, up to £2,000,000; Silver doesn't include personal liability.)

6. Does the cover only apply to the days I play rugby?

No — for the policy to be valid, we cover you from when you leave your home in the UK to when you return home.

We do have a Policy which will actually cover you just for the days you are playing Rugby but it actually works out more expensive.

7. Does your rugby insurance cover the sole purpose of the trip being rugby?

Yes it does cover Rugby as the “sole purpose of your trip”.

8. Is the insurance cover accepted by the RFU?

Our rugby cover is travel insurance — it provides emergency medical, repatriation and the other policy benefits for rugby tours and tournaments.

If your tour or tournament organiser asks for a specific type or level of cover, check what they require and we'll confirm whether our policy meets it — call us on 0800 043 0020.

Yes, it is as the loading is the same, you will be covered for both irrespective of which activity you are doing
