Manual Work Travel Insurance

It is important to have Travel Insurance if you are taking part in Manual Work abroad to ensure that any injuries sustained are covered under Medical & Repatriation Expenses.

This policy can also cover Manual Work (above 9 metres), please contact us as this needs to be referred to the Underwriter for approval.

This policy will provide cover up to the age of 69 years.

Personal Liability and Personal Accident are covered.

Please Note: We can cover just the day or days that you will be taking part in Manual Work if you already have a Travel Insurance policy in place. When getting a quote and when purchasing a policy, you must take out Adventures Party A Only, so the cover is valid.

Independent Traveller Extension

Cancellation, Loss of Deposit or Curtailment is extended to include the following cover.

We will pay you up to the amount shown (for each Insured Person) for any irrecoverable unused travel and accommodation costs and pre-paid activity course fees and any other prepaid charges that you have paid or are contracted to pay together with any reasonable additional travel expenses incurred if:

a) You were not able to travel and use your booked accommodation or attend your prepaid activity course.

b) The trip was Curtailed before completion as a result of the Travel Advice Unit of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) or the World Health Organization (WHO) or similar body issuing a directive prohibiting all travel to, or recommending evacuation from the country or specific area or event to which you were travelling providing such a directive came into force after you purchased this Manual Work Travel Insurance or booked the trip (whichever is the later). In the case of Curtailment after you had left your home to commence the trip or closure of air space directly attributable to a volcanic eruption.

Important Exclusions

You will not be covered if you are suffering from anxiety, stress, depression or any other mental or nervous disorder on a Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip policy.

Personal Liability and Personal Accident

No Personal Liability or Personal Accident cover is arising out of ownership, possession, or operation of:

  • Any motorised or mechanically propelled or horse-drawn vehicle.
  • Any aircraft motorised or mechanically propelled watercraft or sailing vessel.
  • Any animal.

Examples of Work at Ground Level

We have included some examples to help you determine which level of cover you may need, but if you're still unsure, please call us for help.

Non-Manual (ground level only)

  • Occupation Examples: Bar Work, Baby Sitting, Data Analyst, IT Services.

Manual Work (ground level only / no machinery)

  • Non-Manual Examples: Saw, Hand Held Planner, Screw Driver, Junior Hacksaw, Hand Brace Precision Drill (non-electric), Chisel.
  • Occupation Examples: Decorating a house (not at height)

Manual Work (ground level only including the use of light handheld machinery)

  • Light Hand Held Machinery Examples: Power Drills, Electric Sanders, Rotary Cutter, Router.
  • Occupation Examples: Installing Small Machines, Line Painting

Working at Height up to 9 Metres and Using Machinery

If you will be working at heights up to 9 metres and/or using Machinery, you will need a Specialist Policy which can cover this activity.

Band Saws, Lathes,  Moulers, Sharpening Systems, Bench Grinders, Polishing / Buffing Machines, Fixed Sanders / Belt Sanders, Chain Saws.

Occupation Examples of Manual Work (up to 9 Metres):

Volunteering in Post Disaster Rescues, Window Cleaning, Tree Surgeon, Carpentry, Installing Water Park Slides, House Renovations at Height, Installation of Air Conditioning Units at Height, Installing 10 Pin Bowling Mechanical Systems, Roof Installations.

Health & Safety at Work

All types of Manual Work will carry Health & Safety risks.

If you're working or volunteering for an organisation, they should provide you with a thorough Health & Safety briefing and training to help reduce the risk of harm to yourself or others.

If you feel like you haven't been given appropriate guidance, seek it out.

Whether a business is small or large, they have a duty of care to ensure its working environment is safe.

However, the Regulatory Standards will differ between foreign countries so you may need to use your initiative more in some countries than others.

  • Make sure you have the appropriate Work Permit or Visa. Hand Brace Precision
  • Wear all appropriate protective gear and clothing as per industry best practice standards.
  • Be vigilant of hazards around the workplace.
  • Take care not to place yourself in any unnecessary danger.
  • Always ask for help if you're unsure about how to carry out a duty or operate machinery.

Personal Liability and Personal Accident

Our Adventure Travel Insurance policy does cover Personal Liability and Personal Accident for Manual Work.

This means that if whilst at work you cause damage to another person or property, our Adventure policy will not provide cover for the damages and any compensation.

However, you may find that your Employer has Employer's Liability cover in place, which means that in the event you damage a third party or third party property, their insurance may cover the damage.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

If you have pre-existing medical conditions and you plan to do Manual Work whilst travelling abroad, we can provide you with a policy.

Covid-19 / Coronavirus Cover

Our Manual Work Travel Insurance policy can cover you provided the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is not advising against all but essential travel to your destination.

All customers must follow the advice of the FCDO at the time of travel and for the duration of their trip. This includes returning to the UK if the FCDO changes their travel advice based on the risks presented at the time. www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice

  • Medical Expenses and Repatriation - if medically necessary, if you or anyone on this policy contracts COVID-19 whilst abroad.
  • Cancellation Cover - if you or anyone on this policy are unable to travel because you have contracted COVID-19 within 14 days of your departure date. This includes a positive pre-travel test. (You will need to add Adventures Part B to your quote and policy).
  • Curtailment Cover - if your trip is cut short if you or anyone on this policy becomes ill with Covid-19.

There shall be no cover if you or a travelling companion on this policy have refused or not taken up an offer of vaccination for Covid-19 (if available to you or a travelling companion and the vaccine requires two doses) for any reason other than genuine medical grounds.

European Resident or Already Travelled

Globelink International offers Single Trip and Annual Multi Trip policies if you live in another European country.

This policy will also cover you if you have already left your home country and are already travelling.

This activity is automatically covered under Hazardous Pursuits Category 1 & 2, so there is no need to select an extra option for Manual Work.
