Schools Ski Racing Championship Travel Insurance

JS Travel Insurance has partnered with Halsbury Ski to provide Ski Racing Travel Insurance for the participants at the School Ski Racing Championships (ISSC) from 16th to 22nd December 2022.

The Ski Race (Training) and Races take place over 7 days and you must have a comprehensive Ski Racing (Training) and Ski Racing Travel Insurance policy for this period.

There is a 5% discount provided for all participants who book through JS Travel Insurance.

If you are looking for a policy for a child under 18 years of age, you will need to select Independent Child (Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip) when going through the quote process.

Highlights of Cover

  • Medical Cover (up to £10m) for injuries whilst Ski Racing (Training) and Ski Racing, for all medical treatment including if you are diagnosed with Covid-19. Repatriation is also covered under this policy.
  • Ski Equipment Cover up to £1,000 (single article limit £600) for loss/theft/damage in transit, storage and whilst in use.
  • Delayed Activity Equipment up to £200 if your skis, boots and/or poles are delayed for 12 hours or more.
  • Covid-19 covers Cancellation if a positive test is issued within 14 days of your departure date. You will need to select Adventures Part B when going through the quote process.
  • Please Note: Halsbury Ski has a 21-day Covid-19 Guarantee as well. So Part A might be sufficient cover for you.

Ski Racing Travel Insurance FAQs

1. Am I also covered for when I am not Ski Racing (Training) or Ski Racing and Skiing Recreationally with this policy?

Yes, the policy will cover you for Medical Expenses, Repatriation and Search and Rescue.

2. Can I be covered just for the days that I am Ski Racing (Training) and Ski Racing?

Yes, if you have a Travel Insurance policy already in place, then we can cover you just for the day(s) that you will be Ski Racing (Training) or Ski Racing. So for example, if you are just Ski Racing (Training) and Ski Racing from the 16th to 22nd December 2022, then you can select just these dates and you can only have Adventures Part A only on the policy.

3. What is the cover for Covid-19?

The cover is for Cancellation if you receive a positive test 14 days before departure. You will need to select Adventures Part B for this cover. Medical Expenses and Repatriation, if you become ill with Covid-19 whilst abroad.

4. How do I get my 5% discount?

5. Should I get Ski Racing Travel Insurance even if I already have Travel Insurance on a family policy?

You will need to check the existing Travel Insurance policy to see if it covers Ski Racing (Training) and Ski Racing. It is almost certainly not included and so you will need this cover to be fully insured.

6. If I do Ski Racing (Training) and Ski Racing more than once a year, then can I get an Annual policy?

Yes, you can. An example premium would be £187.91. If you are planning three trips a year or more, this is the policy to purchase. The policy will also cover other trips during the year as well as other school trips.

7. What if I have pre-existing medical conditions?

We can cover most pre-existing medical conditions and they will need to be declared during the quote process. Please make sure you declare all medical conditions so that the policy is valid. Please see the section on Important Medical Exclusions.

8. Are my Skis covered when I am Ski Racing (Training) and Ski Racing?

Yes, they are covered for up to £1,000 (Single Article Limit £600). So cover when they are in transit, storage and use.

9. What is the claims process, if I am injured?

We provide you with a 24 /7 Emergency Assistance telephone number and they will register the claim and let you know the next steps.

10. How does the Sports Equipment cover work?

If you need to make a claim for your Sports Equipment, such as skis, boots or ski poles. The age of the equipment is taken into account. 85% if purchased within one year. 70% under two years. 50% under three years. 25% under four years. 10% under five years. Thereafter, no cover is available. If you do not have receipts, then it is a good idea to have photographs of the equipment for proof of ownership.

11. If my child injures themself during a ski race and needs medical attention, will they be covered? 

Yes, they will be covered for Medical and Emergency Expenses up to £10,000,000  including Repatriation back to the UK.

12. Can I cover an Independent Child on this policy? 

Yes, we can cover anyone under 18 years of age as an Independent Child as long as they are accompanied by an insured adult, this insured adult does not have to be covered by us.

Important Medical Exclusion

You will not be covered if you are suffering or being treated for any mental health issues such as anxiety, stress, depression or nervous disorder on a Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip policy.

Search and Rescue

We can provide Search and Rescue whilst taking part in Ski Racing (Training) and Ski Racing.

This is a benefit which covers you up to £50,000 (Excess £500) and a Local Rescue Organisation will search, rescue and transfer you to a local hospital or we will repatriate you back to your home country if the medical facilities are not up to our standards.

Search and Rescue costs are covered for a period not exceeding 72 hours from the time at which assistance is first summoned.

The Emergency Assistance Company will then arrange the Search and Rescue on your behalf.

We recommend that you provide a copy of your Travel Insurance Certificate and the 24hr Emergency Assistance Telephone Number to a member of your Group or Instructor.

Covid-19 / Coronavirus Cover

Our Ski Racing (Training) and Ski Racing Travel Insurance policy can cover you provided the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is not advising against all but essential travel to your destination.

All customers must follow the advice of the FCDO at the time of travel and for the duration of their trip. This includes returning to the UK if the FCDO changes their travel advice based on the risks presented at the time. www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice

  • Medical Expenses and Repatriation - if medically necessary, if you or anyone on this policy contracts COVID-19 whilst abroad.
  • Cancellation Cover - if you or anyone on this policy are unable to travel because you have contracted COVID-19 within 14 days of your departure date. This includes a positive pre-travel test. (You will need to add Adventures Part B to your quote and policy).
  • Curtailment Cover - if your trip is cut short if you or anyone on this policy becomes ill with Covid-19.

There shall be no cover if you or a travelling companion on this policy have refused or not taken up an offer of vaccination for Covid-19 (if available to you or a travelling companion and the vaccine requires two doses) for any reason other than genuine medical grounds.
