Quad Biking Travel Insurance FAQs

Quad biking is covered on our policies as an added activity: quad biking up to 125cc, and quad biking with no upper cc limit. Add it to your quote and it's covered for your whole trip. Get a Quote

Cover for quad biking

1. Does the policy cover quad biking?

Its not covered as standard on our policies, however we do quad biking, we cover the following quad activities:

If you already hold a general travel insurance policy elsewhere that doesn't cover quad biking, we can  provide top-up quad biking cover through our Adventures policy alongside it — call 0800 043 0020.

2. Are there engine size (CC) limits for quad bike cover?

Yes — Level 6 covers quad bikes up to 125cc; anything above that (150cc, 250cc, 300cc or bigger) needs Level 8, which has no upper CC limit.

The activity affects the premium, so tell us the engine size when you get your quote, if you're not sure, ask the hire company before you travel, and if there's any chance you'll be given a bigger bike on the day, take out quad biking no upper cc limit so a substitution doesn't leave you uncovered.

3. Are buggies, ATVs and other off-road vehicles covered too?

Yes. All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) are treated the same as quad bikes (Level 6 up to 125cc / Level 8 no limit).

Dune and wadi buggying/bashing sits at Level 5, so it's automatically included if you've bought quad biking cover at Level 6 or 8.

Motocross and Enduro-style motorcycle riding are separate higher-level activities.

4. Am I covered on a guided excursion or a hired quad — and is damage to the quad covered?

Yes — quad biking is covered whether it's a guided hotel excursion, an organised tour or an independent hire; the policy doesn't require a guide or supervision (though you must follow local safety laws and the operator's rules).

Hired quads and your own quad are treated the same for the activity cover.

What isn't covered is damage to the quad bike itself — vehicles are excluded from the policy's property cover, and liability you take on by signing a hire agreement is also excluded so the hire company's damage deposit or excess is a matter between you and them; check their waiver and liability before you ride.

Riders, rules and liability

1. Are there age restrictions — and are passengers covered?

The policy's own age rule is that all insured persons must be under 66 when the policy is bought - Get a Quote

If you're 66 to 75, we can still cover quad biking through our Adventures policy, so call 0800 043 0020.

Minimum ages for actually riding a quad are set by local law and the hire operator, not the policy. many operators won't let under-16s or under-18s ride, so check before you book.

Passengers are covered provided each person on the quad is insured on a policy with the activity shown on their certificate, being a pillion doesn't change that.

On public roads, riders need an appropriate licence (see below), which rules out unlicensed 17-year-olds for road use but not necessarily off-road tracks.

2. Does the policy include personal/third-party liability for quad biking?

No — this is the most important exclusion to understand. The policy's personal liability section does not apply to mechanically propelled vehicles, so injury or damage you cause to someone else while riding a quad bike isn't covered by your travel insurance and that's standard across travel insurers, not unique to us.

Third-party cover should come from the hire company's own motor insurance, so ask them what their policy covers before you ride, and read the hire agreement carefully (liability you accept by signing an agreement is also outside the travel policy).

Your own injuries are a different matter — see the medical question below.

3. Do I need a driving licence or safety equipment to be covered?

For off-road riding — tracks, dunes, organised excursions — the policy doesn't require a driving licence, although hire operators and local law may.

For riding on public roads you must hold an appropriate licence and follow the local safety laws, a UK driving licence is the usual evidence, but check the destination's own rules.

On safety equipment: wear the helmet — it's required on motorbikes and mopeds under the policy and you should treat quads the same and follow any equipment rules the operator sets, since failing to take reasonable precautions can affect a claim.

4. Is quad biking covered in my destination — and on public roads?

Quad biking is covered anywhere within the geographical area of your policy — Europe (including Crete, Bulgaria and the rest of the continent)

Worldwide (including Morocco and Dubai)

Cost and practicalities

1. Am I covered for medical expenses if I have a quad bike accident?

Yes — with quad biking on your validation certificate, the policy's emergency medical cover applies in full: up to £5,000,000 for treatment, hospital and ambulance costs and repatriation to the UK, plus hospital benefit and search and rescue cover on the applicable levels, with the excess set by your policy level - Get a Quote

In an emergency call the local emergency number, then the 24 Hour Medical Claims Service on +44 (0)1444 465 579

One important exclusion: the personal accident section (the lump-sum benefit for death, loss of limb or sight, or permanent disablement) is not covered for quad biking — that's what "no cover for personal accident" means on the activity list.

Your medical treatment is covered; the separate lump-sum benefit is not.

2. How much does quad bike cover cost?

The exact price depends on your destination, trip length, ages and policy level, so get a quote online or call us onl 0800 043 0020 and we'll do it over the phone - Get a Quote

3. Can I add quad bike cover while I'm already on holiday?

Yes. If you forgot insurance entirely and your trip is at least 7 days, you can buy a policy within 48 hours of departure provided nothing has already happened that could lead to a claim.

Beyond that window, or to add quad biking to an existing policy mid-trip, call us on 0800 043 0020

We can also provide top up cover for just the days you are quad biking via our provider Adventures if you've already left the UK.

4. Does the policy cover quad bike racing or competition?

No — racing, timed events, and competitions aren't covered

quad bike cover is for recreational riding only: excursions, trekking, dunes and leisure use.

If you've been invited to take part in any organised competitive event, call 0800 043 0020 before you travel and we'll tell you where you stand.

5. Does an annual policy cover quad biking?

Yes — quad biking can be added to an annual multi-trip policy just as it can to a single trip policy, and once it's shown on your validation certificate it applies to your trips during the policy year (maximum 31 days per trip) - Get a Quote

If you already have an annual (or single trip) policy elsewhere that excludes quad biking, we can provide top-up quad biking cover through our Adventures policy to sit alongside it — call 0800 043 0020 and we'll arrange it for your dates.
