Motocross Travel Insurance FAQs

We cover motocross on closed circuits and tracks in the UK and Europe. Motocross is provided through our specialist provider, PJ Hayman Adventures - Get a Quote

Can I get covered?

1. Do I need a UK motorbike licence for motocross cover?

No. As motocross is an off-road activity on a closed circuit, you don't need to hold a licence.

2. Is there a CC limit for motocross?

No CC limit, provided you have previous experience on the same CC bike you'll be riding.

3. Do you cover motocross racing?

Yes — we cover amateur motocross racing on a non-professional basis.

Under the Adventures wording, "professional" means you're paid to take part, or you receive sponsorship, fees or prize money of more than £500. As long as that doesn't apply to you, amateur racing is covered — Motocross must be shown on your policy schedule and the appropriate premium paid. Get a Quote

4. Do you cover motocross including jumps?

Yes — motocross including jumps is covered, provided it's on a closed circuit or track. It doesn't cover you if you create your own jumps.

5. Do you cover motocross worldwide?

No — we can only cover motocross in the UK or Europe. Get a Quote

What's covered and what isn't

1. What's included and excluded for motocross?

Included:

Emergency Medical & Repatriation up to £10,000,000 if you're injured or need emergency treatment while taking part in motocross.

Search & Rescue costs up to £50,000 (£10,000 within the UK), payable for up to 72 hours from when help is first summoned (£500 excess).

Optional Part B cover — baggage, cancellation and unexpected-events benefits — if you need the wider travel insurance sections as well.

Excluded:

No personal liability or personal accident cover (loss of limb, loss of sight, total disablement) for motocross.

Plus the standard general exclusions in the policy wording.

2. Does motocross cover emergency medical and repatriation?

Yes — cover includes up to £10,000,000 for emergency medical treatment and repatriation back to the UK if you're injured or need emergency treatment while taking part in motocross.

Definitions

1. What's the definition of motocross?

Motorcycling on closed dirt tracks or circuits using a motocross bike.

2. Is flat track / dirt biking covered by travel insurance?

It comes down to where you ride, not just what it's called. Flat track and dirt biking count as forms of motocross, so they're covered under motocross cover as long as you're on a closed track or circuit — on the same amateur, non-professional basis as motocross racing.

Off the track they're not covered under motocross: trail riding, open ground and general off-road riding all fall outside it.

For off-road riding, we have a separate off-road / enduro cover, but that only applies to guided tours in Europe — so contact us on 0800 043 0020, and we'll point you to the right policy.
