Travel Risks in Cuba
Cuba is a moderately safe country. Pickpocketing is common in tourist locations and on public transportation; always keep an eye on your belongings.
Muggings have also happened in urban areas. If this occurs, it is essential to cooperate with a thief, as they have been known to use force if you do not hand everything over.
Taxi drivers will often try to take advantage of travellers by overcharging them. Always get into a marked taxi, and if the cab does not have a visible meter, agree on a price before entering the vehicle.
The Hurricane Season in Cuba typically runs from June to November; be wary of this before travelling.
Avoid travelling anywhere alone, especially after dark, and especially if you are female.
