It's worth noting that the European Paragliding Championships are held every two years. The last championship was in Pegalajar, Spain, in 2024, so the next one is scheduled for August 5-16, 2026, in Krushevo, North Macedonia.

What is the difference between FAI Categories 1 and 2?
FAI Category 1 (Cat 1)
-
Top Tier: The absolute highest level of international competition.
-
Event Types: World Championships, Continental Championships.
-
Pilot Entry: Extremely strict, based on high FAI World Ranking (WPRS).
-
Gliders (XC): Almost exclusively require FAI Competition Class (CCC) gliders.
-
Purpose: To crown official World/Continental Champions.
FAI Category 2 (Cat 2)
High Level: Significant international events, a step below Cat 1.
Event Types: Paragliding World Cup (PWC) stages, major International Opens.
Pilot Entry: Less strict than Cat 1, but still competitive and earns WPRS points.
Gliders: May allow a broader range (e.g., EN D, sometimes Sports Class), but still high-performance.
Purpose: To provide high-level international experience, allow WPRS progression, and serve as a stepping stone to Cat 1.
