Travel Advice

  • Get your doctor's advice on travelling with Eczema, and ensure you have enough medication for your entire trip.
  • Choose your destination wisely. Consider the climate and potential allergens. If you are sensitive to sun or chlorine, avoid tropical countries or water-based activities. If dust mites are a trigger, choose accommodation with hardwood floors and hypoallergenic bedding.
  • Pack loose-fitting, breathable clothing from natural fibres such as cotton or linen. Avoid wool, polyester, and synthetic fabrics, which irritate your skin. Also, pack a hat and sunglasses to protect your skin from the sun.
  • Pack your toiletries. Bring your usual fragrance-free soap, shampoo and moisturiser. Pack travel-sized versions of your eczema creams, and don't forget lip balm.
  • If you are going to spend time outside, pack a cool mist sprayer to soothe your itchy skin. If you are going swimming, choose a pool with chlorine-free filtration or bring a waterproof eczema sleeve.

Whilst Travelling

  • Hydrate and drink a lot of water to keep your skin hydrated and prevent flare-ups. Avoid caffeinated and alcoholic drinks, which can dehydrate you.
  • Apply your moisturiser regularly several times daily, especially after showering or swimming.
  • Be mindful of your triggers and avoid them when possible. This could include dust mites, pet dander, certain fabrics, or harsh soaps.

  • Stress can worsen eczema symptoms. Find ways to relax and de-stress, such as yoga, meditation, or reading a book.
  • Don't ignore it if your skin starts to itch or flare up. Take a break, apply your medication, and do whatever you need to calm your skin.
