Travelling with Acid Reflux

  • Pack your medication. This seems like a no-brainer, but you must ensure you have enough medicines to last the entire trip.
  • Pack a small bag with essentials for combating acid reflux, such as over-the-counter antacids, chewable ginger or other remedies that work for you.
  • Avoid foods and drinks that trigger acid reflux, such as spicy foods, fatty foods, citrus fruits, chocolate, coffee, alcohol and carbonated beverages.
  • Drinking plenty of water can help to dilute stomach acid and reduce heartburn.
  • Wait at least three hours after eating a meal before lying down to sleep or relax.
  • Tight clothing around your waist can pressure your stomach band and worsen reflux symptoms.
  • Stress can worsen acid reflux symptoms. Try relaxation technics such as deep breathing or meditation to help manage stress whilst travelling.

Follow these tips to prevent acid reflux on your travels. If you experience symptoms, take your medication and avoid foods and drinks that may worsen the condition. See a doctor if your symptoms are severe or don't improve with medication.
