Overland trips are the very symbol of outdoor adventures. They allow you to truly explore the country you are travelling in, to experience the wildlife and to meet the local people and immerse yourself in their culture.

Overland trips are participation tours in a self-sufficient vehicle where every one gets involved in the day to day running of the trip, pitching in to cook, clean, set up tents and light fires.

It's this active participation which is the main difference between overlanding and a conventional package safari. Overlanding is about being willing to take on adventure, and assisting your guides, crew and fellow passengers in a communal form of travel.

Whilst suitability for over landing is not based on age or fitness, it can get demanding and it's about having the capability to deal with the unexpected.

Whilst overlanding is generally safe there are still risks. It is strongly advised you look into what vaccinations you may require, depending on where you are travelling. You may also require Malaria tablets. If you are going to be participating in any trekking or travelling to areas of high altitude you should be aware of and prepared for the effects of altitude sickness. Finally, be sure to travel with a reputable company who maintain and regularly service their vehicles.
