Scuba Diving Grades
Scuba Diving is covered to the confirmed depths per Grade, provided you are diving under the direction of an accredited Dive Marshall, Instructor or Guide.
If you are suitably qualified and are not Diving alone, the cover is provided within the guidelines of the relevant diving or training agency or organisation, as confirmed below:
- PADI Open Water - 18 metres
- PADI Advanced Open Water - 30 metres
- BSAC Ocean Diver - 20 metres
- BSAC Sports Diver - 35 metres
- BSAC Dive Leader - 50 metres
Common Injuries
Most importantly, for divers going to this depth of water, 30 metres is the depth at which symptoms of nitrogen narcosis can occur.
This condition temporarily alters the consciousness, affecting the senses and movements of a Diver and causing them to experience numbness. It can also lead to hallucinations.
- A change in air pressure can cause damaged sinuses and ruptured eardrums
- Disability or even death, in extreme cases, can be the result of decompression sickness.
- Oxygen toxicity can cause the diver to have a seizure and drown
- Hypothermia, necessitating the use of a wet suit even in mild waters
Scuba Diving Activities
Leagues Ahead Diving in Gran Canaria offers a Range of Scuba Activities. The water averages 19 - 22 degrees year-round, meaning you'll never be too cold!
Leagues Ahead also offer a full Scuba Diving Kit, including a thermal wetsuit for the colder months. If you visit in January, you'll be at the height of Angel Shark season. Be sure to try and spot one of these on your trips!
Pre-Existing Medical Conditions
If you have been Scuba Diving before and may have had an injury or accident whilst participating in Scuba Diving, you must declare this when purchasing a policy.
