Excluding Medical Conditions

We can provide cover that EXCLUDES your Medical Conditions.

The quotes available are for a Single Trip or Annual Multi Trip policy only and will depend on your Medical Conditions and the status of any awaited treatment or investigation.

Please check the Policy Wording for any Restrictions or Exclusions.

Please Note: If you choose to exclude cover for all of your Medical Conditions, your policy will exclude any claims arising from or traceable to these Medical Conditions, but will provide cover for anything else unforeseen.

Awaiting Medical Treatment or Investigation

Please Note: If you are awaiting treatment or investigation our policy will NOT provide cover for cancellation and curtailment under the following circumstances, unless you purchase our additional option for Waiting List Cover (which can be added to our Gold and Platinum Single Trip policies only):

  • You receive an appointment for treatment or investigation which conflicts with your planned trip
  • As a result of the awaited treatment or investigation you become unable to travel on your planned trip.

Awaiting treatment or investigation does not affect cover whilst you are away for medical conditions which you have declared to us.

Should you become aware of a change in your diagnosis before you travel, please notify us immediately.

Please Note: If you are awaiting an initial diagnosis for symptoms you are currently experiencing we are unable to provide cover until you have a confirmed diagnosis.

Why Premiums May Increase

The most common and usually the most expensive cost to Travel Insurance providers relates to Emergency Medical Expenses and also Repatriation back to the insured person's home country following injury or illness.

Some Medical Conditions carry a low risk of a claim being made, and therefore the associated premium is relatively low.

On the other hand, the premium will be relatively higher for Medical Conditions where research shows that there is a high chance the customer will have to claim, and that in the event of a claim there would be high Medical Expenses.

Premiums will also vary depending on the Geographical Region, length of cover and the age of the customer.

This provides our customers with the peace of mind that we will cover the costs of Emergency Medical Treatment so they don't have to.

Medical Screening FAQs

Why is Medical Screening Important?

This is important so that we can decide if we can provide cover or not. We will ask you a number of questions which relate to your Medical Condition. It does not take very long, but can involve some personal questions.

If you do not tell us about your Medical Condition(s) which you've had within the time period specified within the quote, then you might find that a claim will be refused, as we were not given the complete picture and therefore the premium would have been incorrect.

Do I need to declare minor Medical Conditions and treatment?

All medical conditions for which you have received investigations, medical treatment, prescription medication or visits to a hospital or clinic or any other medical practitioner will need to be declared. Usually this relates to any medical treatment in the last two years. This includes mild asthma, chest infections and a sprain, for example.

What will the outcome be of the Medical Screening process?

When you have answered the medical questions, this should only take a few moments, you will be presented with several options.

  • A Standard policy that covers the Medical Condition(s).
  • Refuse to insure you.

If we cannot cover your Medical Conditions on an Annual policy, you might want to consider a Single Trip policy instead.

Will I get refused cover in some parts of the World for my Medical Conditions?

Depending on where you are travelling to will impact the decision. For example, if you are travelling to the USA, as there is no Public Health System, this will increase the premiums offered.

Global Health Insurance Card

The GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) replaced the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) on the 1st January 2021.

You can use this card to access medical healthcare abroad. This includes state healthcare including emergency treatment, treatment for existing medical conditions, routine maternaty care, oxygen therapy, kidney treatment and many more healthcare requirements.

Please Note: This is not a substitute for Travel Insurance, as there are restrictions on cover and you might have to pay some costs. It is important to note that this card will not cover Repatriation.
