Jet Skis

Personal Water Crafts, or Jet Skis as they are generally called, are different from boats in that riders stand on or sit on the Water Crafts.

Sit-down Jet Skis are the most popular and accommodate two or even more people.

Stand-up Jet Skis are ridden by only one rider and are usually used for racing, competitive Jet Skiing, and stunts.

Jet Skis were called Water Scooters when they first hit the market in 1950s Europe. At the time, the Water Scooters looked vastly different from the modern Water Crafts of today.

It was not until the 1970s that Kawasaki began producing stand-up Personal Water Crafts. They were meant for only one rider and were mass-produced.

Other companies that now manufacture personal Water Crafts are Yamaha, Bombardier, Polaris and Honda.

Nowadays, although stand-up Jet Skis are still being made, the sit-down version has become more popular.

Jet Skis have various uses. Not all of them are used for recreational purposes, though many are. Jet Skis are, for example, used by the lake and river police because of their speed and manoeuvrability.

Armies also use them. Rescuers also use Jet Skis to get to victims if an accident occurs quickly. These Jet Skis are equipped with a rescue platform at the back.

Popular Locations for Jet Skiing

Jet Skiing is a popular water sport, especially in warm beach destinations. Their extreme popularity is due to the Water Crafts' flexibility, speed, relative ease of use, reasonably affordable price, small size, and the fact that they do not have an outboard propeller, making them pretty safe vehicles for swimmers and wildlife.

Jet Skiing can be done everywhere where there is a large body of water and, of course, wherever it is allowed.

For instance, many National and State Parks do not allow Jet Skis because of their loud noises.

It is a trendy water sport in warm and sunny places. These destinations also attract people who want to sunbathe, Swim, Scuba Dive, Water Ski, Sea Kayak, and Surf.

Common Injuries

The most common injuries sustained are collisions with other objects and falling off the jet ski at high speed. The best way to avoid damage is to wear a fitted life jacket. Often, in an accident, a life jacket will keep an unconscious or semi-conscious person afloat in the water.

There are engine stop devices designed to cut the motor in case of accidents, such as a vanguard attached to the wrist.

Jet Skiing is a strenuous physical activity in direct sunlight on salt water. Be sure to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen with a high SPF.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

If you have been Jet Skiing before and may have had an injury or accident while participating in Jet Skiing, you must declare this when purchasing a policy.

We have several providers who can offer travel insurance, including Jet Skiing and if you have a pre-existing medical condition.
