Golf Travel Insurance FAQs

1. Why do I need to get specific Golf Travel Insurance Cover?

Golf is not a risky activity we know, and it is commonly asked why you would need to have a specific Travel Insurance policy for Golf; this is why:

Medical Cover: If you are injured on the course, be that by your travel companions or by a fellow Golfer and need Emergency Medical attention, then you will be covered under the Medical and Repatriation Expenses up to £5m

Cancellation: If you get sick or injured before the trip and cannot travel, you will be covered for pre-paid accommodation or flights.

Activity Equipment Cover: If your Golf Clubs are accidentally damaged, lost or stolen in transit, you are covered for activity equipment.

Golf is Standard with all our travel insurance policies at no extra premium.

2. I'm going on a golfing holiday for the sole purpose of my trip. Is this covered?

Yes, we cover Golf as the sole purpose of your trip, so you can play as many rounds as you like during your time away.

3. Am I covered if I get sick or injured before my golf holiday and need to cancel my trip?

Yes, as mentioned above, if you or a close family member falls sick or gets injured before your golf holiday and you can no longer travel, there is a cancellation for any pre-paid accommodation or flights.

On the Gold it's up to £3,000 and on the Platinum it's up to £7,500

4. Are my Golf Clubs covered by this policy?

We know a good set of golf clubs doesn't come cheap these days, starting at around £200 plus, we cover any owned activity equipment up to £1,500 (single article/pair/set limit of £750) for accidental damage, loss, or theft in transit or locked storage.

Please note this is subject to Terms and Conditions under the Wear, Tear and Descprication; see in the Policy Wording.

5. Am I covered if the holiday provider cancels my golf holiday?

Unfortunately, our policies are not set up for this eventuality; you must deal with the Golf Holiday Provider to rearrange or refund your golf holiday costs.

6. How am I covered if I get injured on the golf course and need medical attention?

Although Golf is a relatively low-risk activity, there are still hazards on the course, whether golf carts, other players around you, or you trip over a bunker or yardage sign.

Our policies include medical and repatriation of up to £5m to the UK.

7. I go on multiple leisure trips yearly, including a golf holiday. Is there an annual option?

Yes, I travel multiple times a year for leisure and Golf. It may be a good idea to get an Annual Multi-Trip policy; this includes trips in the UK, and our policies have a 31-day maximum trip length with unlimited golf days during that period.

8. Does this policy cover me for Golf Tournaments?

This policy doesn't include coverage for Golf Pro-Ams or Amateur Competitions. However, our provider, Adventures, can cover this, and they can do so professionally.

9. Is there any Hole In One cover on this policy?

Unfortunately, our policies are not set up to offer a Hole in One benefit; however, you should buy your friends a beer in the bar to celebrate!

3 Facts about Hole-in-One:

  • The odds of a Hole-In-One are 12,500 to 1 (Amateur Golfer) and 2,500 to 1 ( Professional Golfer)

  • The Average Golfer will only make 1 Hole-In-One in their whole lifetime.

  • Hole-In-Ones are more common on Par three holes and days when winds are calm, and greens are soft

10. Am I covered for Personal Liability if I damage someone's property whilst playing Golf?

This policy does NOT cover any Personal Liability, be that if you injure or damage another golfer or a golf cart.

Travelling with your Golf Clubs

If you're going on a Golfing Holiday, you're taking your clubs, no doubt! Before you travel, you should check out the airline policies, fees and requirements; we have listed a few airline policies below:

British Airways: Your golf clubs must be checked in as Luggage with a fee of £70 within Europe and £150 for intercontinental flights.

They must be packed in a sturdy or hard-cased bag and labelled as "Golf Clubs."

You must not exceed the following dimensions: 190 x 75 x 65cm - Max Weight: 23 kg

EasyJet: Like British Airways, your clubs must be checked in as Luggage; this comes at a fee of £40 for round-trip flights.

They must be packed in a sturdy or hard-cased bag and labelled as "Golf Clubs."

You must not exceed the following dimensions: 158 x 36 x 45cm - Max Weight: 20 kg

Ryanair: all the same policies as the above airlines remain the same for Ryan Air; the fee is €40 for round-trip flights.

You must not exceed the following dimensions: 158 x 36 x 45 cm—max Weight: 20 kg.

Top 5 tips for avoiding damage/loss to your golf clubs when flying:

  1. Don't buy a cheap golf luggage bag; these tend to be made of thin material and offer no protection against your club, and if the material splits, you could lose a club or two. Invest in a solid, rugged-cased golf luggage bag like a Longridge Hard Golf Bag.

  2. Mind the heads on your golf clubs; if you damage one, you lose an iron, wood or putter to play with. Most newer clubs allow you to remove the heads easily, and you can pack these in a pocket of your bag; there are services in the resort to reassemble them.

  3. Bubble Wrap your heads if you don't want to remove them, which will add some protection to them.

  4. Invest in a luggage tracker to locate your bag once you have landed, be it an Apple Airtag or Tile Tracker

  5. Take detailed pictures of your clubs before you travel so you have evidence if any damages occur during travel.
