Popular Destinations in Germany

Berlin

With its melting pot of multiculturalism and unique mix of modernity and traditionalism, Berlin truly is a 'bucket list destination. Berlin has a vibrant and unforgiving nightlife, often called the city that never sleeps - forgets about New York!

Gorge yourself on German beer, or visit a bar for a divine cocktail; Berlin is your city!

Stroll along the Berlin Wall and take in all the rich history this city offers, readily accessible by foot or public transport.

Hamburg

It's the country's largest port and commercial centre, dubbed 'the Gateway to the World'.

Hamburg became a centre of international trade, dating back to the Middle Ages, and remains one of Germany's wealthiest cities.

Hamburg also has a great music scene, with many prominent composers, such as Brahms and Mahler, who were born or played here. However, that has evolved into a fresh and modern musical vibe, with many festivals being held here today. Make sure to time your trip with a musical event or frequent a live music bar in the city.

Cologne

There are also plenty of museums to get yourself lost in!

Visit Cologne's historic Old Town and get a sense of what it would have been like here 70 years prior, as three-quarters of Cologne was destroyed in the war.

Munich

Visit one of Munich's hundreds of world-class beer halls and get tipsy in one of the most beautiful cities in Germany.

It is filled to the brim with museums and art galleries. Visit a few of these (if you're not too hungover from the night before).

Munich has a beautifully rustic feel; fairy lights douse the city warmly, making the cold winter chill somewhat tolerable.

Travel Risks in Germany

Petty thieves such as pickpockets and bag snatchers often operate in built-up areas of Germany, so be aware of your belongings at all times.

Travellers have also reported increased 'drink spiking' in nightclubs and bars; women should be especially vigilant and never leave their drinks unattended and out of sight. If you suspect you have been spiked, contact the emergency services immediately at 112 and 110 for police.

Travellers should also avoid political demonstrations and protests, which can turn violent.
