Popular Destinations in Croatia

Split

Visit Croatia's second-largest city. Step inside Diocletian's Palace (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) or go bar hopping; this city combines traditionalism and modernity.

It is located beside gorgeous coastal mountains. It is also a port city, so you can hire a boat and sail along the coastline or go on a guided tour to one of Croatia's smaller islands.

Zagreb

Explore the 'City of Museums', Zagreb. With more museums per square foot than any other city, you'll find one that suits your tastes.

Many historical landmarks exist, such as St. Mark's Church and the Presidential Palace.

Croatia's capital has more than enough to offer for a weekend break, often overlooked as a tourist destination, competing with Prague and Budapest.

Dubrovnik

Enjoy a coffee overlooking the azure waters in Dubrovnik. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dubrovnik is one of the most popular holiday destinations for tourists in Croatia.

This city is rich in history, hosting a pedestrian-only Old Town with charming cobbled streets and baroque architecture.

It is also famed for being a popular filming location, with scenes from Game of Thrones and Star Wars: Episode VIII being shot here.

Zadar

Enjoy Croatia without the crowds in Zadar, one of Croatia's most beautiful cities.

Food and drink prices are lower here than in busy Dubrovnik, so sample the local Dalmatian cuisine.

Be sure to take a trip to the 'Monument to the Sun', a giant solar-powered dance floor open to the public. It is an ode to the most beautiful sunset in the world, dubbed by Alfred Hitchcock, who often visited here to watch the sunset.

Brace

Live the island life in Brac. A road less travelled, Brac is a destination for those who want an authentic taste of Croatia.

This island is the largest in Dalmatia, the sunniest, and the least busy, meaning you can relax on the beach or dip in its beautiful turquoise waters.

It would be best to try the olives in Brac. They are a rare variety named 'Buhavica' and have over half a million trees. If your luggage allows, take a few bottles of olive oil home!

Travel Risks in Croatia

The violent crime rate in Croatia is meagre, as is crime in general. Be vigilant of pickpockets operating in the area, and keep an eye on your belongings at all times.

Keep your wallet and keys in your front pocket or forward-facing bag, and keep essential documents in a safe in the hotel.

Croatia has also been known to occasionally suffer from minor earthquakes. Take this into account when visiting this destination.

Certain regions in Croatia may still harbour unexploded landmines and artillery; consult with a guide before hiking anywhere that is not a usual route, and be wary of ditches and warning signs.
