Coasteering

No rule states which Adventure Sports types must be included in Coasteering.

In that sense, it is a straightforward sport. Participants do whatever they need to cover a specific distance along the coastline, including Rock Climbing, Ocean Swimming, Jumping and Diving.

Coasteering's beauty lies in where it is done; rocky coasts usually offer plenty of challenges and obstacles, such as caves, cliffs, boulders and waves.

People have practised every individual part of Coasteering for many decades if not centuries or even millennia.

The word Coasteering was first used in 1973 in a book called Sea Cliff Climbing. Until the last decade of the 20th century, coastering became a commercial sport, a recreational activity done with professional guides' aid.

This happened on the rugged coast of Pembrokeshire in Wales. Adventure sports then spread to other coastal parts of the United Kingdom, such as Cornwall, Anglesey, the Scottish Isles, and the Highlands.

Nowadays, the busiest place in the United Kingdom where Coasteering can be done is the coast of Dorset.

Boulder Hopping, Cliff Jumping, Ocean Swimming, and Canyoning, to name a few, are all Activities that involve a certain level of risk. The risk of sustaining injuries remains even with the proper safety equipment and an organised tour.

Organised Coasteering trips are generally relatively safe, but as the saying goes, it is better to be safe than sorry.

People may slip on wet rocks, fall down a cliff, or get smashed against rocks by waves.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

If you have been Coasteering before and may have had an injury or accident whilst participating in Coasteering, you must declare this when purchasing a policy.

Our provider (Adventures) can offer travel insurance, including Coasteering, if you have a pre-existing medical condition.
