Medical Questions

When obtaining a quote for Travel Insurance to cover Bronchiectasis, you will be asked several questions:

  • How long ago was the date of onset of your lung condition?
  • How many unplanned hospital admissions have you had for this condition in the last year?
  • Can you always walk 200 yards on the flat without shortness of breath?
  • Have you ever had a diagnosis made of Chronic Bronchitis or Emphysema?
  • Are you on home oxygen?
  • Have you ever been a smoker?

Travel Advice

Check with your doctor before travelling to make sure it is safe for you to do so. Carry a recent prescription from your doctor detailing your condition.

Carry any medication you need in your hand luggage and ensure you have enough packed to last the entire trip, including extra in case of delay.

If you need oxygen on the flight, inform the Airline before travelling and arrange to have on-flight oxygen. This can be obtained from the Airline. If you suffer from breathlessness, arrange for help whilst at the Airport.

Areas of a high altitude may have less oxygen available in the air and thus harm your condition.

It is advisable to check with your doctor if you decide to participate in any Activities or Sports whilst you are travelling, as this condition may affect your ability to participate.
