  • Are you currently having any treatment, or is any planned?
  • Are you now on any form of Hormone Therapy?
  • Are strong painkillers being taken?

Travel Advice

Provided you feel well enough, Breast Cancer should not prohibit you from travelling. However, consult your doctor before booking your trip.

If you are taking any medication, it is essential to pack enough to cover the entire length of your trip and take some extra in case of delays.

Take a Doctor's letter listing the medication, type of Cancer and treatments you have had.

Take note of the generic name of the drug you are taking, rather than the brand name, in case you need to find replacement medication abroad, as different names worldwide can know drugs.

To that end, confirm that the medication you are taking is blind in the country you travel to. Keep all medicines in the packaging they were supplied in to assist customs staff.

Having live vaccinations during or up to 6 months after chemotherapy is not wise, as the immune system may be weakened.

If you have had surgery in the last ten days, flying is not advisable. During surgery, small amounts of air may become trapped in the body. During a flight, this air may expand and cause an increase in pressure. After ten days, any trapped air should have dissolved, but discuss this with your surgeon if you are planning to travel after surgery.

Additional Tips

  • Talk to your doctor first. This is the most crucial step. They will advise you on whether it is safe to travel based on your specific situation., including the treatment plan, recovery from any recent surgeries and overall health.
  • Avoid travelling during active cancer treatment, especially chemotherapy or radiation therapy. These treatments can weaken the immune system and make you more susceptible to infections.
  • If you are planning to travel to somewhere where there are limited medical facilities, it might be best to choose another destination.
  • Bring an ample supply of your medications and a doctor's letter stating your medical condition, medications and clearance to travel.
  • Take precautions against blood clots. It is essential if you have recently had surgery.
  • Plan activities you know you can manage and be flexible with your itinerary.
