BMX Cycling Organisations

Thanks to the low cost and the enormous freedom of this newly invented sport, it soon became a hit among youngsters in California and, later, all over America.

By the mid-1970s, BMX Cycling was hugely popular, and in 1974, the National Bicycle League was founded as a sanctioning organisation.

As the sport gained popularity, the American Bicycle Association was established in 1977, and the International BMX Federation was founded in 1981.

BMX Cycling is spread around the world. It became clear that BMX was more closely related to cycling than motorcycles and was integrated into the International Cycling Union (UCI) in 1993.

Common BMX Cycling Injuries

As BMX Cycling is considered an extreme sport, it is one of the flagship sports during events such as the Summer X Games Extreme Sports, and it can be easy to sustain an injury whilst participating in the sport.

It is a fast-paced sport with difficulty and skill, and injuries can be severe and sometimes fatal.

Injuries are usually sustained by going too fast on the bike, overusing specific muscles, or colliding with a motor vehicle or another Rider.

When BMX Cycling, it is essential to ensure you are always wearing a helmet and protective clothing to protect yourself from injury and to limit the severity of the damage.
