Visit the picturesque village of Kefalos, located on the southwestern tip of the island. Kefalos is separated into two parts - the traditional village on top of the hill and the coastline, Kamari, also the village's port and harbour. It’s a great mix of beautiful beachfront and traditional architecture.
Visiting here will really give you an authentic taste of Kos as a whole, and Greek living in general.
Relax on the beach of Kos Town, with an ice cold cocktail in your hand. Although some may regard it as a party town, Kos still has a lot of its historic monuments and architecture beautifully preserved. As Kos’ main port, you can take a trip in an excursion boat, or go fishing for the catch of the day !
Popular beaches line this town, the golden sand and azure waters make it the perfect destination for holiday goers of any age.
The town at the highest altitude, Zia, is surrounded by lush green forests and olive groves. Make sure you try these olives, and all the other local products such as honey and natural soap.
From the top of the hill, you can see the whole town of Kalymnos and watch the sunset from over it. You can fit everything to do in Zia in a day, but be sure to visit the Old Town houses and narrow, cobbled paths.
Travel Risks in Kos
Kos is a fairly safe place to visit, but one of the main issues is with drink spiking and serving fake alcohol in bars. If you can, get a bottled drink as these are harder to tamper with, and never leave your drink unattended.
It is also advised that you buy a mosquito repellent spray, and a plug-in for your room, as the warm climate makes for an abundance of the pesky bugs !
Take normal precautions with your belongings and beware of pickpockets in built up areas.
