What is a Family on a Travel Insurance policy ?

The definition of a Family for Travel Insurance purposes is two Adults and as many Children up to a maximum age of 17 years of age. If you child is under 1 year of age, you should put their age as 1.

There is no limit the number of Children that can be covered, as long as they are related to the Adults named on the policy.

We can also provide a Single Parent policy, if only one Parent is travelling with the Child or Children.

If you have children that are over 17 but still in full time education, we are able to provide a Family Annual Travel Insurance policy up until they are 23 years of age. Please contact us for a quote.

On an Annual Family Travel Insurance policy, the Adults and the Children can travel independently of each other. In the case of the Children they must be either travelling with another Adult or meeting an Adult at the destination, it does not have to be one of the Parents.

What is Winter Sports Travel Insurance?

Winter Sports Travel Insurance is primarily for Skiing and Snowboarding whilst on holiday . If you choose the Winter Sports option then you will be covered for Skiing and Snowboarding from the start date to the return date of your Insurance Policy .

The premium is always higher than for a normal holiday as the risk of injury is higher than a beach holiday for example, as you are physically active all day in the mountains.

Winter Sports Insurance will also cover other Winter Sports and Activities such as Bobsleighing, Off Piste Skiing, Luging and many more. We also cover Ski Racing and Ski Instructors.

These Sports and Activities will need to be selected, so that you have the correct cover for the specific Winter Sport that you are taking part in. If you cannot find the Sport or Activity on the website, please contact us for a quote.

What is 'Incidental Basis' on a Travel Insurance policy?

'Incidental Basis' means that the Sport or Activity you are taking part in on your trip is not the specific reason for going on the trip.

For example: "I am travelling to France and might do some Cycling whilst I am there".

It is important to read carefully the terms and conditions of the policy, specifically the section regarding the Sports and Activities covered and if there are any restrictions or limitations to taking part in those Sports and Activities. For example, with some Sports and Activities, there is no Personal Liability cover.

The JS Policies provide cover for most Sports and Activities and you can select more than one if you are planning a variety of Sports or Activities on your trip.

If you can't find the Sport or Activity listed on our website, please call us and we can advise if we can provide cover.

'Non Incidental Basis' means that the Sport or Activity you are taking part in, is the specific reason for going on the trip.

For example: "I am going on a Scuba Diving holiday, where my main intention is to Scuba Dive".

It is important to read carefully the terms and conditions of the policy, specifically the section regarding the Sports and Activities covered and if there are any restrictions or limitations to taking part in those Sports and Activities. For example some of the Sports and Activities we cover do not provide cover for Personal Liability.

What is 'Essential Travel' on a Travel Insurance policy?

The Foreign Office does not appear to give a clear definition of 'Essential Travel', however we would look to policy holders to use a common sense approach and NOT book trips or holidays to destinations that have this Warning.

Travel for Business would be classed as Essential, if indeed the trip was deemed necessary (i.e to secure contracts).
