On 21st April 2019, there was a terrorist attack in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Authorities have declared a national curfew and there is limited movement allowed in the country. The Authorities have instructed those already in Sri Lanka to follow the advice of the local Tourist Office or Tour Operators.
The Sri Lankan Authorities have confirmed as long as the visitor has a valid passport and airline ticket, they will be able to travel to the airport and arrangements have been put in place for those visitors arriving in the capital.
It is important that you have a Travel Insurance policy in place, as any change to the travel advice from the UK Government can depend on the situation in the country you are travelling to.
You can keep up to date with the UK Government advice on Sri Lanka at www.gov.uk
They will provide valuable advice and information, which is updated frequently and in real time.
Customers unable to use their accommodation in Sri Lanka
If you are on a package holiday or you are travelling independently, you should contact your tour operator, transport or accommodation provider to check their policy on changing accommodation and their policy on refunds. Also check with the card company that you paid the trip with, to see if they will provide a refund.
If you are unable to secure a refund from one of these providers, then cover may be provided under Travel Disruption (under Cancellation or Curtailment section) on your Schedule of Benefits. Please have a look at the Terms and Conditions of the policy that you have purchased for details and the exclusions.
Customers travelling to Sir Lanka after 28th April 2019
If you were planning to travel to Sri Lanka and you have already paid for flights and accommodation, you should initially contact your tour operator, transport or accommodation provider to understand any options you might be entitled to or any refunds available.
If it not possible to obtain a refund from any other source, it is advisable to check your Travel Insurance policy to confirm if you are able to make a claim and what are the conditions regarding such a claim.
Delays and Security
We recommend that you check your airline website for the latest advice and allow for plenty of extra time to go through security. It is important to note there is no cover for missed departure caused by delays at security. So it is a good idea to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to go through the security process.
