USA Health Care System

The UK does not currently have a reciprocal health care agreement in place with the US. When seeking medical care while on your visit, you will be required to pay for medical fees such as those involved with the service of the doctors, any medications and any tests or special procedures required or administered. In the event of an emergency, medical care is still not free. Fees for the ambulance, the emergency room and any further care will be charged also. Because there is little government sponsorship, health care is mostly quite expensive. This is why it is recommended that you purchase your own health insurance before leaving the country. You will receive health care in America, as any citizen of the US would.

85% of citizens in America have health insurance through either their employer or they have purchased it individually. American health care is provided by both individual and legal bodies. Many Americans are not covered under the private health sector and are with organisations such as Medicare and Medicaid with the public health care system. Publicly-funded health care programs aim to provide for the elderly, disabled and the poor and ensure access to emergency services regardless of ability to pay. The United States health care system is ranked 37th in the world by the World Health Organisation.
