Belgium is a country in Europe that shares borders with France, Germany, Luxemburg and the Netherlands. It hosts the EU headquarters and has two main linguistic groups: the Dutch speakers and the French speakers.

Visa Requirements:

When travelling to different parts of the world, your Visa requirements will vary. Belgian citizens wishing to travel to Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Laos will be granted a Visa to the country on arrival with no forward planning, and only Indonesia and Laos will require you to pay a small fee on arrival.

Australia, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam will require you to submit your Visa application in advance, usually online via email.

Other countries, such as India, China and Russia will require you to obtain your Visa through the country embassy. Sometimes this can be done through your travel agent.

A visa will also be required for Canada, Cote Ivoire, Guinea, Iran, Mongolia, United Sates of America and Venezuela.

Customs:

When returning to Belgium with products purchased for personal use from the European Union, passengers are allowed to bring into the country 800 cigarettes, or 1kg of pipe or cigarette tobacco, and 10 litres of spirits over 22% or 20 litres of alcoholic beverages less than 22%.

When returning from countries outside the European Union passengers are allowed to bring in 200 cigarettes 250g of tobacco, and 1 litre of spirits over 22% volume, or 2 litres of spirits or aperitifs made of wine or similar beverages less than 22% volume. Animal products originating from a country outside of the European Union are not permitted to be brought back into the country.

If you wish to travel with your pets, the conditions vary according to the species. For cats and dogs contact the Belgium embassy for specific regulations. Vaccination of the animal will occur on arrival to the country if regulations have not been observed. When travelling with birds, a maximum of two birds per party is allowed, provided there is a certificate from within the past two months from a vet declaring the birds are free from disease.
