Sony VAIO is the branding used for the Sony range of personal computers, netbooks and laptops.

VAIO is an acronym that stands for Visual Audio Intelligence Organiser.

Personal Notebooks

All notebooks come with Windows 7 ready installed. The current models are:

EC Series

This large 17 inch laptop has been praised for its large screen and graphics but users say its larger size is a slight downfall as it is more difficult to transport.

F Series

A 16 inch laptop that has impressive graphics and performance, but is seen to be quite expensive and somewhat bulky.

CA/CB Series

These models come in an array of colours. Some have complained that the luminous pink, green and orange are gimmicky and off putting, however the performance and battery life are good.

SB Series

A 13 inch laptop that is thin, lightweight and durable.

Y Series

A 13 inch laptop that features excellent performance and long battery life.

Business Notebooks (VAIO Professional)

Business notebooks come with Windows 7 Professional ready installed. There is, however a downgrade option.

The current models are:

• TT Series
• Z Series
• SR Series
• BZ Series
• G Series

From March 2011 the words business and professional were removed from all VAIO products.

Common Problems

In 2007 Sony issued a notice that some VAIO notebook computers were found to me producing excessive fan noise and offered a free repair for two years from the date of purchase.

In 2008 Sony announced that some of their TZ Series notebooks would be recalled due to excessive heat build up within the units which had the potential of deformation of the plastic casing. Around 100,000 units were recalled.

There has been issues raised around the fact that some VAIO models do not come with recovery discs and therefore users have to buy separate external hard drives.

If you VAIO is currently in warranty, you can call 0870 240 2408.

If your VAIO is now out of warranty you can call 0905 0310006.

If you purchased your VAIO outside of the EU you can call 0905 0310006.

If your SONY VAIO is covered by a VGPE-VPPS onsite repair warranty you can call 0870 8500976. The serial number on your VAIO can be found behind the battery or by going to Start/Programmes/VAIO control centre/System information.

Security

Always make sure you lock your laptop and use password protection.

Antivirus software such as Norton will protect you against harmful files.

Special software such as Lookout is recommended as this allows you to remotely lock and store files in the event of theft or loss.
