Skin Disease:

A skin disease is any condition which causes an abnormality of the skin covering the entire body. This may take the form of:

• Rashes
• Lesions
• Discolouration
• Pimples
• Blisters
• Nodules
• Cysts
• Ulcers
• Wheals

There a huge variety of skin conditions which can affect you. Some of the more common ones include:

• Eczema
• Ringworm
• Dry skin
• Acne
• Heat rash
• Impetigo
• Psoriasis
• Dermatitis
• Hives

Skin diseases can have a number of different causes, ranging from genetic make up, allergic reactions and stress.

Conditions such as dry skin and eczema can be treated with either basic moisturisers or through medically formulated creams.

In the event of allergic reactions, you should take anti-histamines and remove yourself from contact with the allergenic object or environment. In severe cases, it may necessary to contact a Doctor.

If you are planning on travelling to a hot country, you should take into account whether your condition is exacerbated by unusually warm temperatures.

Excessive sweating can also cause outbreaks of rash.

If this is the case you would be advised not to travel to that destination, or take precautions to avoid the sun during the hottest parts of the day and keep cool with fans and plenty of fluids.

Some conditions such as eczema can actually be soothed and improved by exposure to sunshine

If you do use prescription creams or other medications for a skin disease then please ensure you take an adequate supply for the duration of your trip.

Always carry medication in hand luggage in case of delay or loss of luggage, and keep in mind that you may not carry liquids in excess of 100ml.
