Scuba Diving:
Scuba Diving is underwater diving for which the diver uses a self contained underwater breathing apparatus.

If you wish to go scuba diving while abroad, it is important that you first purchase travel insurance. Some of the more popular areas for scuba diving include:

Common Injuries:
While scuba diving is an exciting and popular sport, it is possible to sustain injuries or illness when diving. Some of these that can occur are:
- Injuries from the change in air pressure can include ruptured ear drums or damaged sinuses, so it is necessary to ensure you equalize the pressure when emerging from diving, at different depths
- Decompression sickness can cause serious illness such as disability or even death, so ensure you make decompression stops when emerging from the water
- Nitrogen narcosis can result from divers breathing in the gas whilst at depth. This can cause inebriated or even hallucinogenic states, depending on the depth the diver is at.
- Oxygen toxicity occurs when a diver exceeds the maximum depth of a breathing gas. In the most extreme cases, this can cause a seizure, which in turn can cause the diver to drown.
- Hypothermia can occur even in mild water so a wetsuit is vital.
Equipment:
If you are not an experienced scuba diving, but simply want to explore the aquatic world whilst abroad, the equipment you will need should all be provided for you.
Some of the most common scuba equipment that an experienced diver should equip themselves with includes:
- Mask
- Snorkel
- Fins
- Buoyancy compensator vest
- Wetsuit
- Diving knife
- Underwater light and back up light
- Regulator and octopus
- Depth gauge
- Tank pressure gauge
- Underwater timer and compass
- Dive logbook
- First aid kit
- Octopus keeper
- Gloves
- Boots
Scuba Diving equipment can be expensive. It's therefore important that your Scuba Diving Travel Insurance has an appropriate level of cover to meet your specific needs.
Policies are available on a "short trip" basis for locations ranging from UK to Europe (including the Mediterranean, Red Sea and the Canary Islands) to more far-flung destinations such as Fiji, Egypt, Cayman Islands and our Worldwide products will provide you with the appropriate Scuba Diving Insurance cover.
This means that your scuba diving insurance policy is tailored to you.
Our basic Travel Insurance policies will only cover Scuba Diving to depths of 18 metres. However, our scuba diving cover can be extended to 30 metres or even 40 metres. Exclusions - Please Note:
You are not covered if you dive within 24 hours of departure on your return trip back to the UK.
Your equipment is covered but only when not in use.
Should you be diving below 18 metres then you need to be PADI qualified or equivalent UK or European qualification.
