Scuba Diving Insurance:

When going scuba diving, 30 metres is the limit recommended for recreational divers. A dive to greater depths is classified as a technical dive.

Some of the areas in which scuba diving is a popular sport include:

Common injuries:

Scuba diving does come with some inherent risks and hazards.

Most importantly for divers going to this depth of water, 30 metres is the depth at which symptoms of nitrogen narcosis can occur. This is a condition that temporarily alters the consciousness, affecting the senses and movements of a diver and causing them to experience numbness. It can also lead to hallucinations.

Other diving injuries include:

  • Damaged sinuses and ruptured ear drums can be caused by the change in air pressure
  • Disability or even death, in extreme cases, can be the results of decompression sickness
  • Oxygen toxicity can cause the diver to have a seizure and drown
  • Hypothermia, necessitating the use of a wet suit even in mild waters

It is important to purchase travel insurance that covers scuba diving up to this depth if you wish to go scuba diving whilst on holiday.
