Common Injuries:

An expedition to the North Pole is a unique experience that few will be able to enjoy in their lifetime.

However, it does not come without its risks.

An expedition is bound to be physically exerting and therefore is not to be undertaken lightly; it requires a certain degree of physical fitness.

Training should be provided beforehand to prepare you for the trip.

As well as this, the extreme temperatures can take a toll on the body and, while sub zero clothing should be provided by the holiday company you are travelling with, it is important to take into consideration the effects of the cold on the body, especially if you suffer from any heart conditions or high blood pressure.

The extreme climate can have an adverse effect on the heart so if you are on any medication or suffer from a medical condition, check with your doctor prior to travel.

The staff will ensure they do everything possible to minimise the danger involved in the expedition.

The trips tend to take place in April, when the risk of the ice melting is at its lowest.

If you are planning on going on an expedition to the North Pole, make sure that your travel insurance policy covers the trip before you leave the country.
