Kitesurfing is a surface water/land sport that uses the wind to propel a rider holding a large controllable kite through the water or on land on a small surfboard.

Kitesurfing is an extreme sport that is readily available to the general public. One of the main attractions of kite surfing is the potential for making huge jumps, flying through the air for considerable distances and being given the opportunity to perform awe-inspiring tricks.

Kitesurfing is now possible in most major beach destinations and can be enjoyed by most age groups. The most suitable locations are those with a consistent, steady side-onshore winds, large open bodies of water and good launch areas.

Because of the high speed and inherent nature of Kite Surfing there are a number of potentially fatal risks, it is therefore always recommended to have a few lessons with an experienced instructor to learn the basic principles of the sport before going out on your own.

Most Kitesurfing injuries are the result of being lofted or dragged out of control by big gusts of wind or collisions with hard objects including sand. It is possible to be seriously injured simply by hitting the water surface at speed or from a height.

Kitesurfing in off-shore winds is also strongly discouraged due to the risk of being taken further out to sea than the surfer can easily swim back. There are also numerous marine hazards including sharks, jellyfish, dolphins, and even crocodiles, depending on the location.
