JS Insurance provides Single Trip, Annual Multi Trip and Long Stay Travel Insurance to those who have or have had Infertility Treatment.

Infertility Treatment:

Fertility treatment is an umbrella term referring to methods to achieve pregnancy through artificial or semi-artificial means.

People resort to fertility treatment after a long period of possible infertility - the failure to achieve pregnancy after regular unprotected sex.

Primary infertility is the inability to achieve a first pregnancy and secondary infertility is the inability to achieve subsequent pregnancies.

There are many types of fertility treatment available for both men and women.

Men

There a number of factors affecting male sperm count, including:

  • Testicular injury
  • Sperm disorders
  • Genetic disorders
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Environmental toxins
  • Obstructive problems
  • Illness such as mumps
  • Use of alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs

Males are generally primarily advised to make some adjustments in lifestyle to improve sperm count, such as:

  • Regular exercise
  • Healthy diet
  • Reduction of alcohol and tobacco intake
  • Stress reduction

You may be prescribed fertility drugs if you have a hormonal imbalance that could be linked to a low sperm count.

Surgery is sometimes appropriate, for instance if there is a blockage in the sperm tubes.

Women

There are similar lifestyle related reasons why a women may not be conceiving, and as such lifestyle changes can be beneficial.

For women that have stopped ovulating, drugs may be prescribed to stimulate the brain into releasing eggs into the womb.

In-vitro fertilisation is when eggs and sperm are fertilised in a lab and inserted into the woman's womb. This is about 25% effective.

Travelling

You can travel normally while receiving fertility treatment. As stress is a contributing factor in the inability to conceive, a period of rest may be recommended.

Avoid travelling to areas with poor sanitation as this may increase the risk of infection, which will affect fertility.

Don't be tempted to overdo it on holiday by smoking, drinking and eating bad food as this will impede any fertility treatment you are receiving.

Make sure to bring plenty of medication for your entire journey, and carry all medication in hand luggage in case of delay or loss.

If you are travelling with others, we can include them on the policy even if they do not have any pre existing medical conditions.
