JS Insurance provides Single Trip, Annual Multi Trip and Long Stay Travel Insurance to those who have High Cholesterol.

We will ask you a number of questions relating to your pre existing medical conditions, this will help us to provide you with a comprehensive quote.

  • Has a blood test EVER at any time shown your cholestrollevel to be raised?
  • Have you ever been a smoker?

High Cholesterol is the build up of fatty deposits known as plaques in your blood vessels, that can increase your chances of developing cardiovascular disease.

Common drugs you might need to take are Statins, Aspirin, Niacin, Ezetimib.

Always ensure you have enough medication with you for the duration of your travel. If you are on medication, make sure you travel with it close to hand along with a prescription from you doctor, and that you have enough available for the duration of the flight and the time spent collecting baggage. Extra supplies of medication should be kept in your suitcase. It is important to maintain your medication intake whilst on holiday, as well as a healthy diet and exercise regime to keep your cholesterol levels down. When eating abroad, avoid foods that have high fats or high cholesterol levels such as shellfish, eggs and offal.

If you have high cholesterol, one of the conditions you may be at risk of is Deep Vein Thrombosis. This is when blood clots form in the legs or pelvis. You should check with a travel health advisor before travelling to assess the risk. To reduce the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis move around during the flight as much as possible, and if you are on a long flight, wear loose fitting clothes. Another thing to do is to try to make sure you drink plenty of fluids, avoiding taking sedatives and reducing you alcohol intake, which causes dehydration.

If you also suffer from high blood pressure, you should be aware that travelling somewhere with high altitude can cause your blood pressure to rise. Should this be the case, consult your doctor before you travel and make changes in medication to control the issue may be advised. This may affect you if you are travelling to countries such as Nepal, China, Pakistan and India, which all have high altitudes.
