Cystic Lung Disease
Cystic lung disease is when tiny pockets of air or fluid develop on the lungs.
Symptoms include:
There are four categories of the disease:
This cyst is usually found in the esophagus or trachea. Infected cysts can affect the function of the airway.
This is overgrowth of lung tissue that forms into cysts.
This is an obstruction in the lung that traps the airflow, leading to cyst development.
This is a mass of lung tissue unconnected to the airways and can be found inside or outside the lung.
Cysts can be present at birth as a developmental abnormality but are more often the result of infection or complications from other diseases.
Cystic lung disease is usually treated by a surgical procedure. This can range from minimally invasive keyhole surgery to a lobectomy, where part of the lung is removed.
