Often you will be helped by a guide who will teach you how to ride a camel effectively.

Many people mistake camel riding as being similar to horse riding. Camels are much more difficult to mount and dismount and have a different temperament.

Make sure to pay attention to everything that your guide tells you to avoid injury.

Injuries from camel riding include:

• Muscle ache
• Muscle strain

• Cuts

• Head injury

In some severe cases, being thrown from a camel has been known to cause permanent back injuries and concussion.

Camels are, however, generally docile creatures.

Make sure you remain covered up and wear plenty of sunscreen during your ride. You may be somewhere as warm as the Sahara Desert so it is vital that you protect yourself from the sun's rays.

And learn camel language :

• "Hoosh" - this tells the camel to kneel so that you can get aboard.
• "Walk Up" - to get the camel moving and "Stand Up" to get the camel to stop.
