Bulimia:
Bulimia is a disease where a person regularly binges on food before purging, either through self induced vomiting, the use of laxatives or periods of self starvation.
Bulimia is most commonly treated with counselling and therapy.
However, medication can also be prescribed to deal with other aspects of the disease that bulimics may suffer from, such as depression, with anti depressants.
Travel Advice:
If you suffer from bulimia and are planning to travel, there are some things you must consider:
It is vital that you purchase travel insurance before leaving the country.
If you are on medication, make sure you take enough with you to last the entire trip, plus extras in case of emergency/delays.
Bear in mind that any different time zone changes may affect when you should take your medication.
Avoid anything that may trigger the bulimia, such as excessive stress or drinking.
If you can, travel with someone you trust, who is aware of the condition and is can offer support and help.
If you think travel may cause a relapse, it is unwise to travel until you are healthy.
When getting a travel insurance quote, you will be asked a few questions about the condition to ensure you get the right quote:
