Bronchiectasis is an incurable disease that can lead to other conditions such as chronic pancreatitis.

When travelling with bronchiectasis, there are some things to take into consideration.

Check with your physician before travel to make sure it is safe for you to do so.

Carry a recent prescription from your doctor detailing your condition.

Carry any medication you need in your hand luggage and make sure you have enough packed to last the entire trip with extra in case of delay.

If you need oxygen on the flight, inform the airline in advance of travel and arrange to have on flight oxygen. This can be obtained from the airline.

If you suffer from breathlessness, arrange for help whilst at the airport.

Areas of a high altitude may have less oxygen available in the air and thus have an adverse effect on your condition.

When getting a travel insurance quote for this condition, you will be asked some medical questions. These will be:

• How long ago was the date of onset of your lung condition?
• How many unplanned hospital admissions have you had for THIS condition in the last year?
• Can you always walk 200 yds on the flat without becoming short of breath?
• Have you ever had a diagnosis made of chronic bronchitis or emphysema?
• Are you on home oxygen?
• Have you ever been a smoker?
