BlackBerry Playbook:

The BlackBerry tablet PC is a tablet computer produced by the company Research in Motion, who also create the BlackBerry smartphone. It was released in Canada and the USA to the public in April, 2011.

PlayBook Tablet PC:

There was much speculation around the BlackBerry PlayBook prior to its release.

With many android tablets, as well as Apple's iPad tablet PC, being released, the anticipation for Research in Motion's BlackBerry tablet was high.

The company RIM released the PlayBook as a rival to the other table brands, specifically the iPad.

Many of the rumours circulating about the tablet PC concerned its performance compared to the iPad and android tablets, earning it the nickname BlackPad.

The tablet was then released in America and Canada in April of 2011, with a June 2011 release date for Britain and the United Kingdom.

Common problems:

Despite the fact that the BlackBerry Playbook has not long been on the market, users of the tablet PC are already bringing up complaints of faults and the tablet's general performance.

Many people have levelled the accusation that the PlayBook is designed for corporate use, not for consumers, and as a result is not ideal for people who want a tablet for their own, personal use outside of business purposes.

AS well as this, immediately on release of the BlackBerry PlayBook, 1000 faulty items had to be recalled. Very few of these are alleged to have been distributed to users.

Some common issues and complaints with the BlackBerry PlayBook are:

  • The PlayBook does not come with its own calendar, email and contacts applications. For these functions, you need to have a BlackBerry smartphone. Alternatively, it is possible you will be able to use an internet based calendar.
  • Many users have reported issues the video chat function. Due to firewall settings, video chat is unable to connect properly. Many users have found that the video chat function only works between two PlayBooks.
  • Connectivity problems. Some users have complained that they experience connection issues with their Wi-Fi, with the connection often being periodically lost when using.
  • Lack of app support. Whilst RIM promises that third party app support will be coming to the PlayBook later on, for the first users of the tablet, the BlackBerry PlayBook does not support android apps, meaning they are reliant on BlackBerry's own. This is a major flaw when compared to other tablet PCs.
  • Early uses experienced trouble with Adobe Flash.
  • Limited battery performance. Some people have complained that the PlayBook's battery does not last for long enough and is prone to running out after significantly short periods of time if a number of apps are running at the same time.

Support numbers:If you require technical support with your BlackBerry PlayBook, you can contact BlackBerry customer services on 0800 096 2805.

Security devices: The BlackBerry PlayBook comes with a number of security settings that help ensure your data remains safe and protected.

These include:

  • An encrypted connection between the BlackBerry tablet and a BlackBerry smartphone. The connection requires both a BlackBerry bridge pairing process and a Bluetooth pairing process to open the authenticated and encrypted connection.
  • Protected work data. To ensure that your work data remains protected, the tablet performs a number of functions. These include separating the work and personal files, as well as deciding which applications are work applications and letting these applications access work data. It also encrypts data and does not create a permanent store of work data on the tablet.
  • Date deletion function. The tablet is designed to allow the user to wipe it of all personal data. This is particularly useful for protecting your personal data if the tablet is to be given away or disposed of.
  • Use of resources. The operating system on the BlackBerry PlayBook is designed so that it can restrict processes from accessing any memory other than that which they are specifically allocated to.
  • Protection of the operating system. The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet operating system is designed so that any process which stops responding can be restarted by the operating system without affecting the rest of the processes.

Additionally, it is often possible to purchase additional security programs that help protect against spyware, malware, viruses and bugs.

From there, go to the settings icon and then click About on the menu.

The serial number is then listed in the General section.
