Black Water Rafting is a form of extreme sport which takes place in underground water and involves the use of an inflated rubber inner tube to float and navigate your way through networks of caves and small water falls.

Black Water Rafting is typically done in groups with a tour guide. Most tour companies will provide all the necessary training and safety equipment, including a wetsuit, boots and helmet. Generally you only need to bring your own towel, swimsuit and camera.

Black Water Rafting originated in New Zealand and it is still popular in New Zealand as well as countries such as Belize.

Whilst being considered as a reasonably safe, it does carry considerable risks. Whilst no prior experience is required, just an average fitness level and a sense of adventure, it is not recommended for people who are scared of the dark or claustrophobic.

The most common injuries in Black Water Rafting are minor cuts and bruises which are caused from the heavy impact against the ground and cave walls.
