MacBook Air
First launched onto the market in 2008, the main selling point of the MacBook Air is its ultra portable design and lightweight build. It has the advantage of being lighter than many of its competitors.
Despite being promoted as the thinnest laptop available, this has proved controversial with other companies, who have also brought out ultra thin laptops.
The latest update of the MacBook Air laptop was brought out by Apple in 2010. This computer has the following features:
- Widescreen display with LED backlighting
- DisplayPort output Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics

- Unexpected shut downs. The early MacBook models were often subject to randomly shutting down.
- Problems with the batteries. MacBook models created in 2007 suffered problems with the battery; the MacBook would not recognise it. This was due to a faulty logicboard.
- 2010 saw Apple recall a number of MacBook models created between 2006-2007, due to issues with the hard drive.
- Cracked top cover. Many users find that over time, the top of the laptop cover becomes cracked or starts to splinter.
- Stuck CD/DVD drive. This can be due to the internal slot load getting stuck and preventing the CD or DVD to come out, or it could be due to opening of the drive becoming warped or bent.
- Hard drive issues. Problems with hard drives is something that affects most laptops regardless of the company, so it is important to keep your work backed up if you do not wish to lose it.
- Problems with the trackpad. This is a more common issue with the older MacBook computers that do not have the glass trackpad seen on later models. The trackpad can be subject to sticking or coming lose. It is also unduly affected by moisture on hands, which can be resolved by shutting down the computer and cleaning the trackpad.
- Problems with the battery. Issues with the battery range from failure to charge, to not lasting as long as it should, to not being recognised by the computer.
- The laptop charger can fail.
- Problems starting up after being on sleep. Sometimes Macs can have problems waking up or fail to completely.
