Treatment for Angina has three main goals in mind: to reduce the symptoms, to prevent the symptoms from occurring again in the future and to reduce the likelihood of having a heart attack.
Some of the most common medicines for Angina are:
Travelling with Angina:
If you are going travelling with Angina you should make sure you have sufficient supplies of medication with you keep it on you at all times, not putting it into luggage which you may be separated from. If you have an unstable condition, it is best not to travel. However, always check with your before travel to make sure it is safe for you to do so. Air travel for someone with a stable condition who does not experience a lot of attacks and has not been hospitalised recently should be able to fly without a worry. It may be necessary to inform the airline of your condition before travel.
It is also best to avoid spa treatments if you suffer from Angina, including hot tubs and saunas, and do not take part in any activities that involve a sudden change of temperature, for example, coming out of a sauna and jumping into cold water.
When travelling abroad with Angina, countries that have extreme climates can affect your condition. It is inadvisable to travel somewhere with a very cold climate, as the conditions can affect the heart by causing the blood pressure and heart rate to increase. It can also potentially affect the blood and cause clots. If you do travel somewhere with a very cold climate, wrap up arm and avoid any activities that require exertion.
Equally, extremely hot climates can also have a negative effect on you. Heat exhaustion and dehydration can occur. Extreme heat can put excess pressure on your heart and circulation. If you sweat excessively, this can also cause dehydration which will reduce the total volume of the blood. Therefore, if you are in a hot climate, it is vital that you drink a lot of fluids and keep yourself hydrated.
You should also avoid travelling somewhere that has a high altitude. High altitudes force the heart to work harder which can cause issues for someone with a history of heart problems. The same applies for going diving. You should consult with your doctor before diving or going travelling to high altitudes.
