In order to minimise the risk of causing permanent harm, it is vitally important to wear the correct protective gear when participating in the sport. This includes a helmet, gloves, jock strap, hip, tail, thigh, shoulder and knee pads, mouth guard, jerseys and pants, and spiked shoes or cleats.

When travelling with American Football equipment, check with the airline you are travelling with for their policies on over sized, excess and over weight baggage.
