BlackBerry History

The history of BlackBerry started with the launch of its first two way pager the 850 in 1999. The BlackBerrys are developed by a company called Research in Motion (RIM). All BlackBerrys are able to send and receive information on wireless data used by mobile service phone companies.

The BlackBerry signature is the full Querty keyboard and the email system.

At the beginning, the phone was only targetted towards Businesses and Company Exectives who needed access to company information on the go. However in recent years the company has started making phones with features suitable to the general public as well.

In November 2004 the company announced that it had 2 million subscribers Worldwide which increased to 5 million by May 2005 and to 14 million in the next 2 years.

The company started its production in 1999 with pagers and later mobile phone models named in series one after another 5000, 6000, 7000 and the 8000. The company is currently in the 9000 series. The best selling models of the BlackBerry is the 'BlackBerry Curve 8520, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and the BlackBerry storm 9520'.

According to the BlackBerry website the company currently has 41 million users Worldwide. The BlackBerrys are currently offered in 175 countries through 550 carriers
