Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Unite, the trade union that represents the majority of British Airways cabin crew, has announced its intention to take strike action on the follwing dates: 20th to 22nd March 2010 and 27th to 30th March 2010.

At the time of writing all BA Flights are continuing to operate as normal. If a strike does go ahead, BA are intending to operate a range of flights and not all BA flights will be cancelled.

In the first instance customers should await an update on their flights from BA, contact BA or their tour operator.

Cover will be considered under the applicable policy sections where the flight/holiday was booked and the insurance was effected prior to the strike action announced on 12th March 2010.

Cancellation or Curtailment

There is no cover for customers wishing to cancel their holidays due to a disinclination to travel due to the strike or industrial action. Claims are to be dealt with under the specified perils only and strike is not one of them.

Travel Delay / Travel Abandonment

No cover exists if the affected flight has been cancelled before the booked departure time. Therefore, (after you have checked in) you need to experience the applicable length of delay (12 hours for travel delay and 24 hours for abandonment) within their insurance contract to be eligible for the set compensation under our insurance contracts or to eligible to abandon their booked trip as per the terms and conditions of their cover.

Missed Departure

Cover is not applicable if the flight is cancelled and they are booked onto an alternative flight. Normal cover applies if the customer is delayed in reaching their international point of departure due to perils stated in the policy.

Delayed Departure

The intention of this benefit is to compensate you for the inconvenience of finding themselves stranded at the airport. We expect you either have checked in or provide a written note from the airline (at the airport) confirming that you were not allowed to check in and also providing details of how many hours delay teh flight was affected by.

Travel delay is a benefit, so you are not required to submit receipts as evidence of expenses  incurred

Baggage & Baggage Delay

Cover will be provided for any baggage lost or misplaced during transit throughout the course of a strike subject to the individual terms and conditions of cover.
